Sagres Fortress

Sagres Fortress is a legacy from several ages and cultures, and its transformations over the years are as a result of one passion - "the Sea".

The wall is one of the most impressive Portuguese rebuilt fortifications, having in its interior the enigmatic Rosa-dos-Ventos (wind rose) and the Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Graça (Our Lady of the Grace Church) in the same place where in 1459 the Pope Pio II ordered the construction of the Igreja de Santa Maria (Saint Mary's Church).

With cliffs approximately 40 meters high, this dramatic scenery is one of the most popular places for fishing either as a sport or for food! It is also a favourite area to take pictures to add to the photo albums of those innumerable visitors that pass by.
